Take Your Exit
Day 3 was a tough one. It seems we are in agreement on that.  I was hungrier and very sluggish.  Around 3:30/4pm my brain just shut off.  I have had a hard time maintaining my focus.  It has also been hard to find the time I want to spend with the Lord.  I'm hungrier for Him and really want an additional hour in the morning to just pray, listen, and journal.  It looks like I will have to get up earlier next week-5:30am.  I was hoping for 6:30 wake ups but no matter what it always goes back to 5:00 or 5:30am.

I don't have anything insightful to say except: No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it (I Cor. 10:13). We are all going to be tried during this fast--tempted to eat something or act in ways in appropriate for where we are going.  We will also be tried when God reveals things to us that are in us and are not so pretty.  We will have to decide whether we will ignore it or confess it, repent of it, and change it.  So just keep going!  I already feel like it is worth the sacrifice.  Just remember to take your exit.  When God makes a way of escape, jump on it IMMEDIATELY.  Do not travel down the road any further.  TAKE YOUR EXIT because the next one may be too far to take before you fall!  Blessings!

  1. Hark the herald angel sings...

I am so grateful to God for a wonderful day. Not only was I able to get some important tasks completed at work, I was also able to provide coverage for a unit member who could not complete her placement assignment. I was able to graciously accept the tasks and was able to delegate one of my nonplacement assignments to a case aide. I just got home a few minutes ago - which means I had to work 21/2 hours of unexpected overtime today.

Now my body is still tired. But my mind and spirit are alert and focused. I guess the weariness in my body was no match for my willing mind and spirit…:) (I think I need to meditate on this point over the weekend)

I'm about to retire in a minute. But before I do, I just want to say to everyone: keep up the good work and remember that God rewards those who diligently seek him.

    Peace and Blessings!

    Tammy

  4. Hey Folks,

It's Shonnell. I had the chance to speak to some of our members at the kids choir rehearsal regarding the fast. We all gave the same look... bright eyes, twisted mouth, head tilt and a big sigh. The encouraging part is that after that we all wipped out our trail mix, sunflower seeds, and pistachio nuts(LOL)

We were able to review The Daniel Fast Cookbook with recipes that looked interesting. (E-mail address is needed if interested.)

On spiritual note,we spoke about humility and we all agreed that this is a humbling fast. I stated that while I'm eating,my mind remembers the Jesus movies that come on TBN. The people in the movie are eating with their hands and it looks like the oats we are called to eat during the fast.

It makes me think of how Jesus, all powerful and mighty, humbled himself not only to come down from eternity to save wretches like us; but if that wasn't enough, washed the feet of others, fasted for 40 days and nights and sweat blood so that we may have an everlasting life......Um!!!!

    PASS THE PORRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Hello STJ Family,

Can a sista keep it real? I'm 100% dedicated to the Daniel Fast, but I'm having a problem feeling happy through this thing! Don't get me wrong, I love the Lord with ALL my heart and soul. And I will do, whatever God tells me to do. I'm even experiencing a greater, more enriched prayer life...I thought my prayer life was already great, but I find myself praying for so many people and so many causes, all the time. By the time 12 noon rolls around, I am so excited about the idea that my prayers will interconnect with so many other prayers at the same time. God must be so pleased with the tremendous praise and outreach to him from STJ. The prayer experience is so awesome! However, having to eat food that I normally do not eat is quite a challenge. I love meat, veggies, fruit and birthday cake, but I can't have half of that stuff. I hardly eat starches because it raises the sugar level, but I'm eating it to feel full. And I don't like oatmeal or tofu or seeds and what about I'm single and don't really feel like cooking?! I cook almost everyday now. Go figure. Anyway, I'm in this for the longhaul, but it is not easy.

Thanks for lending an ear. And Keep your Eye on the Prize (gotta encourage myself!).

    Be Blessed!!! Love you all...

  6. Hello my Daniel Fast family - I hear ya I am getting that leave me alone I just wanna be by myself feeling. I posted on facebook yesterday that I took a afternoon and just sat on my deck (after I cleaned all the chestnuts off since I chased all the squirrels away) any way I just sat that there taking in the breeze, nodding off :-) and finally just talking to God because I am not getting it. My meditation is off, my prayer time is off and I am having that disconnected feeling, not to mention that I wanted a cup of coffee so bad for the first time. Nope I didn't...
My cousin who is fasting for Ramadan came over, he was looking hungry, I was feeling hungry cause I had to hurry up and eat before he came (didn't wanna do it in front of him, he can't eat till the sun goes down).
I inquired about his prayer time and how he is so dilligent in making time for prayer. I also shared with him about where I am and he told me something that help me out trememdously. He told me that when I meditate to keep outside thoughts outside, concentrate on my heartbeat because that is where God can be found. He then said that even when we are sleep our hearts continue to beat, that's God. It is the one place that we know for sure God dwells. Well after that I have had meditation time with God 2x since then and let me tell you, the heartbeat is so soothing and warm that I know it is God.

    Another receipe to share:

Marinate salmon with Balsamic Vinegar and onions (over night) - place on grill an cook until flaky and you see grill marks. Cut into bite size pieces. - set to the side
Prep Brown rice while preparing stirfry
Cut up below veggies and scallions (place scallions to the side)
Using safflower oil stir fry broccoli, shredded carrots, red, green, yelllow & orange peppers with fresh garlic and fresh ginger root.
Mix hot sauce, juice from 1 whole orange, soy sauce (low sodium)
After broccoli & carrots are cooked but crunchy add hot sauce mix and stir. After mixed well add salmon and stir - let marinate for 5 mins low heat.
Pour over rice and add scallions to top off dish.

    Enjoy!!

    Be blessed
